The College of Biological and Physical Sciences (CBPS) has dedicated an entire month to celebrate the 50th anniversary of University of Nairobi. The College held a virtual event to launch the month-long celebrations on Thursday 27th May 2021, the launch set the pace for a series of activities that will include alumni talks, webinars, inaugural lecture and many other activities (Click HERE to view scheduled activities.) The purpose of this college-based celebration is to take stock of the immense contributions CBPS has made towards successes of the University, to celebrate faculty and staff outstanding performance in research and innovation, to engage our alumni to inspire our current students and also to highlight the milestones of the College.

The University of Nairobi launched the #UoNat50 campaign (1970-2020) to celebrate a rich history of traditions, achievements, milestones and the tremendous impact the institution has had in the country and region. The CBPS #UoNat50 campaign was officiated by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Finance, Development and Planning Prof. Margaret Hutchinson who began her address by stating “from humble beginnings in 1970, the University of Nairobi has built an enduring legacy of excellence. Excellence in knowledge creation and utilization through our competitive, innovative and market-driven programmes. Excellence in research and innovation, impacting society. Excellence in student experience and mentorship.”  Prof. Hutchinson also highlighted the significant contributions the College has made towards the collective University of Nairobi legacy of delivering competitive academic programmes and cutting edge research and innovations. The College is home to the Institute of Climate Change and Adaptation, and also houses the ISO certified Aflatoxins testing laboratory, the College birthed the C4D Lab which strives to nurture and incubate innovations in Information Technology; in addition, the College hosts the certified pesticides laboratory; the College is home to expert Geology and Meteorology experts who are national think tanks and policy advisors. 

The College Principal Prof. Francis Mulaa expressed appreciation to the University management, Faculty, staff and students for attending the official launch saying “Today as we launch the UoN@50 activities, we also recognize and celebrate our heroes and heroines. The College has over the years given the nation and the world top notch scientists, managers, government leaders, policy advisors and mentors. I wish to acknowledge that all of us here are heroes and have contributed immensely to the growth this College and the university.
