The college of biological and physical sciences emerged the top performing college in the 2019/2020 performance contracting awards with a performance score of 2.7903. In the teaching schools without department’s category, School of Mathematics emerged 2nd with a performance score of 2.9747 while the School of Biological Sciences emerged 3rd in the same category with a performance score of 3.0137. In the Institutes and Centres category, Centre for Advanced Studies in Environmental Law and Policy (CASELAP) emerged winner while the Centre for Biotechnology & Bioinformatics came In second with a performance score of 2.798. . In the teaching schools and faculties with department’s   category, the top perfume was the school of open and distance learning (ODEL).

Speaking during the function, Vice Chancellor, Prof Stephen Kiama,  urged for better performance across all University units and he also challenged all the units that had rated poorly to improve on their performance.

The University Council has put all Colleges and Departments on a performance contract, which is a management tool for measuring performance against negotiated targets.  This important process tool is aligned to the   universities strategic plan, individual staff work plans and unit strategic plans.
