With a staff of approximately 250 employees with a total of 78 individual hall units, 11 Strategic Management Units, and a total bed size of 11, 539 beds spread throughout the University of Nairobi's six constituent Colleges, the Halls department is the largest department under the Students Welfare Authority. The School of Physical Sciences is one of the six constituent Colleges.
The department has implemented Hall Management Information System–HAMIS and cooperates closely with the offices of the Special Students' Advisor (SSA) and the Dean of Students for the purposes of ensuring an open, equitable and accounting room distribution process.
When there is surplus room in the system, students who are not in session, Module II students, and postgraduates will be considered for housing.
